Dr. William Pearce was a proud UNF graduate with a degree in Biology who also had a decorated career with the UNF track and cross-country program. Dr. Pearce was a five time conference champion, earned All-A-Sun, Second-Team honors in 2008 and 2010 in Cross Country and Outdoor All-A-Sun, First-Team honors in 2008 and 2009, Indoor All-A-Sun, Third-Team honors in 2009 and 2010 in Track. He was a two time recipient of UNF’s Scholar Athlete of the Year award.
Following graduation from UNF, Dr. Pearce went on to medical school at USF. While in medical school, he was selected by the American Medical Association to serve as their Government Relations Advocacy Fellow, a year long appointment in Washington DC advocating for the AMA in congress. After graduating medical school, Dr. Pearce pursued a career as an emergency physician with the ERG Group working in the Baptist Medical System in and around Jacksonville.
William also pursued his athletic career after medical school. He returned to his first love, triathlon, rising quickly to the level of Elite Certification from the USA Triathlon association, the highest level of competition in the country.
William’s life was tragically cut short at age 35 by an extremely rare and aggressive esophageal cancer.
William’s intent, years before his cancer diagnosis, was to establish a scholarship at UNF when he was financially able. His UNF days were some of the best of his lifetime, and he always wanted to repay that experience by helping a student athlete experience the same as he did. His desire was that the scholarship be awarded to a well-rounded student athlete, strong in both academics and track.
