MOCA Lunch and Learn

A Moment in Beijing

Join us in the MOCA Learning Lounge for a buffet lunch provided by NOLA MOCA, a brief lecture with UNF Professor Nick de Villiers, and a private tour of the exhibition A Moment in Beijing: Su Xinping, Weng Yunpeng and Jizi.

A Moment in Beijing presents the work of three artists - Su Xinping (born 1960), Weng Yunpeng (born 1964) and Jizi (1941-2015). Although all three artists have been based in Beijing, China, each comes from very different backgrounds, reflective in part of the multi-layered changes that have shaped China's political, social, and economic landscape over generations. Through a diverse range of media including painting, printmaking, drawing, and video, these artists reference a rich cultural past viewed at once through a contemporary lens.

Dr. Nicholas de Villiers is Professor of English and Film at the University of North Florida. He is the author of Opacity and the Closet: Queer Tactics in Foucault, Barthes, and Warhol (University of Minnesota Press, 2012) and Sexography: Sex Work in Documentary (University of Minnesota, 2017), along with essays on Chinese-language cinema in positions: Asia critique, Senses of Cinema, and Jump Cut.

Cost: $25 for members; $30 for nonmembers
